As you may know, if you are interested in applying for a skilled visa such as a 457 or Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) Visa (from March 2018), your nominated occupation will need to be listed as eligible on the skilled occupation lists: Medium and Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and the Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).

Every six months, the Government reviews the STSOL to ensure it reflects changing Australian market needs. We’ve recently received notice that the six-monthly review has now been completed and that a new STSOL will be released on or around 17 January and be effective immediately.

It is expected that some occupations may be removed from the STSOL. During the review process, several occupations were flagged for removal (such as Recruitment Consultant, Building Associate and Accommodation and Hospitality Managers), while several others were flagged for possible addition (University Tutor and Psychotherapist). See which other occupations have been flagged via our fact sheet.

Further changes to the occupation lists are expected in March 2018 with the introduction of the TSS Visa, which will impact permanent employer sponsored visas.
