General Skilled Migration
Visas applications under the General Skilled Migration program are for highly skilled applicants who should be able to contribute to the Australian economy due to their qualifications and work experience.
To be eligible to apply for General Skilled Migration, you must be under 45 years of age, have sound English language ability, and must usually have formal qualifications (either trade or tertiary) and recent work experience. However, International students who have studied for at least 2 years in Australia may be able to lodge an application without any work experience.
Your occupation must be included in the Skilled Occupations List, and you must have your skills assessed in Australia by the relevant assessing authority. Your prospects of success may be enhanced if you are sponsored by a close relative living in Australia, or if you have a nomination by an Australian State or Territory government. Applicants will usually need to meet a pass mark in a points test.
All applications under the General Skilled Migration program must be lodged either online or by post or by courier service through the Adelaide Skilled Processing Centre. You cannot lodge an application of this type in your home country.
